I know that some of you will be surprised to see a maternity session on my blog.  A couple of years ago I attempted to do a couple of maternity sessions in my studio, with the black backdrop and the white fabric.  All I’m going to say about that is that it didn’t go well.  I didn’t enjoy it so I just quit and didn’t try again.  That brings us to about a month ago when Melanie called me.  She was so excited for her baby and really wanted to have maternity pictures.  I told her I don’t do them, just as I told almost everyone else that has called in the past 3 years.  I’d been thinking about giving it another try but knew that I had to have just the right person that wanted the non-traditional style maternity portraits.  Melanie, with all of her excitement, seemed to be the person.

I drove out to Cochrane, which is about a bazillion miles from my house in Lake Chaparral in Calgary, and enjoyed the quiet drive - so the day was starting off well.  It got even better when she opened her door with a big smile, introduced me to big brother who was sitting in a highchair with an icecream cone, and big sister with her super sweet disposition.  When she showed me around her amazing house, with all of the colorful bedrooms I was ecstatic.  Ok, maybe you think I’m gushing now but I’m really not, I was happy!

So,if you are looking for fun, contemporary maternity portraits and you live in or anywhere semi-close to Calgary - call me!  I loved it and can’t wait to try again.

Here is Melanie and her 2 cuties.  Melanie was 38 (ish) weeks pregant and as of yesterday is cuddling with her new baby boy!

While I was in Las Vegas at WPPI (photography convention) I tagged along for a couple of sessions with Gabe of Perspectiveye, a photographer here in Calgary and Braeden of Ambient 11 in Texas.  They were photographing Shannon Pratt, another photographer from Lethbridge.  We wandered around the Strip and some of the alleys and while most of these shots are the visions of Gabe and Braeden I loved them too much to keep them all to myself.  These are the images that I shot…

I spent part of the day yesterday with baby Chase.  I do admit wholeheartedly that I love newborns but spending time with older babies always makes me smile.  They are just comletely adorable.  Chase had the best expressions I’ve ever seen.  Honestly, look at these pictures, how can you not smile at his huge eyes and priceless expressions?

I admit it, I’ve gotten myself a little bit behind.  I took a week away to go to WPPI (the photography convention in Las Vegas) and now here I am blogging a session from almost 2 weeks ago!  I am quickly catching up though, and so happy to be back in Calgary and home with Terry and all the kids.  I missed them all so much and judging from the number of hugs and “I love you Mom”s that I have gotten they missed me too, Terry did a great job with everything though!  Adam is cracking me up when he looks at me and says, super seriously… “me love you Mom, you know dat?”  It melts my heart.

Meet this little sweetie and her super cool Mom and Dad.  She wasn’t very sleepy but with a little patience and a lot of cuddles and sucking on her Dad’s finger she fell asleep and was oblivious to the world around her.  She was completely adorable.  I fell in love with her and her house, an older house that had been completely renovated while still keeping the character is was born with.
